A recent attack by hackers using Malware cost retailer Target, more than $200 million, and it is thought to be further spreading than that. ‘Backoff Malware’ used checkout computers and point of sale systems to gain access, and use information such as credit card details. This same attack is also estimated to have targeted more than a thousand other US businesses.
Imagine what this would do to your business if all your customers credit card details were suddenly being used by hackers?

Many small to medium businesses either are unaware of such things, or feel that hackers won’t bother with them. But we are seeing a steady rise of even 1-2 employee businesses having Malware on their system. Common issues caused by Malware are email accounts being hijacked and then used used for spam (we’ve seen this lead to clients email accounts being blocked and then unable to send out).
Security is a constant issue on the web, and as we move more and more devices onto our home and work networks, it’s a more serious concern than ever.
Firstly speak to your IT support professional as they’ll know your system(s) and devices best and what you already have for protection. Get your anti-virus/malware protection up-to-date on every PC in your office/network. We use Kaspersky as recommended by our IT support company, but your IT Support may recommend something else.
